17 France Jean-Serge Rohart President of the Comité Maritime International Villeneau Rohart Simon & Associés—15, Place du Général Catroux, 75017 Paris INTRODUCTION The LLMC Convention (Convention on Limitation of Liability for Maritime Claims, 1976) was approved by France on 29 December 1979 and entered into force on 1 December 1986. The earlier Limitation Convention of 1957 (International Convention relating to the Limitation of the Liability of Owners of Sea-Going Ships), which had been incorporated into French law by the Law of 3 January 1967 was denounced in 1987, with effect from 15 July 1988.
