Another plea for no-fault compensation in clinical negligence cases

NHS Resolution in England has announced that over £80 billion has been set aside for potential liability, and that each year about £2.5 billion (around 2 per cent of the NHS budget for England) is given to patients who suffer harm as a result of negligence in healthcare. As a result, there have been further calls for the introduction of no-fault compensation for clinical negligence. A recent article in The Times newspaper (12 July 2021) pointed out that the sums involved would pay for HS2, or for 20 Queen Elizabeth-class aircraft carriers.
