Carers frequently encounter problems with patients who, for a variety of reasons, refuse to take medication. That is not a problem when the patient refusing treatment is an adult with capacity, but obviously, as the case outlined here indicates, difficulties arise when the patient lacks capacity to make decisions about taking medication.
