Daily Digest: Howden acquires Aston Lark, China set for marine top spot, AGCS reports ransomware spike

Howden acquires Aston Lark Broker Howden has acquired Aston Lark from Goldman Sachs and Bowmark Capital in a move that will create a UK broking giant. The new deal is Howden’s largest transaction to date and will create a business managing more than £6bn ($8.18bn) of gross written premiums in the UK. The deal will unite Howden UK, A-Plan Group and Aston Lark to service clients across the UK and Ireland, creating a business comprising 5,000 employees in 160 locations in the UK and Ireland. The new combined entity will cover specialist personal lines, commercial, schemes and affinity, health and benefits, corporate and specialty in the UK market. On completion of the deal, Aston Lark’s chief executive, Peter Blanc, will become executive chairman of Howden UK’s retail broking operations and A-Plan’s chief executive, Carl Shuker, will be appointed chief executive of the new platform.
