Group actions

10.1 The law and procedure relating to multi-party situations or group actions has developed considerably in recent years. The courts have moulded existing procedures in order to address the particular problems which arise when large numbers of litigants with a common interest seek redress. The position remains as it was summarised by Steyn J in the Myodil litigation:
