Standstill agreements in light of the Court of Appeal judgment in Cowan

This article discusses the recent Court of Appeal decision in Cowan v Foreman and Others [2019] EWCA Civ 1336, which was handed down on 30 July 2019. This was the appeal from the decision of Mr Justice Mostyn not to give permission for a widow to bring an application for an order under section 2 of the Inheritance (Provision for Families and Dependants) Act 1975 (the 1975 Act) some 17 months out of time. The article addresses the issue of standstill agreements, as this has generated a great deal of comment.
