In its judgment of 4 December 2019, the Court of Justice ofthe European Union (CJEU) ruled that the protection of the name “AcetoBalsamico di Modena”, which has been registered as a geographical indicationsince 2009, only applies to the name as a whole and does not extend to the useof the terms “aceto” and “balsamico” as individual components of that name.
