A critical evaluation of the UN Convention on International Settlement Agreements Resulting from Mediation 2019

The UN Convention on International Settlement Agreements Resulting from Mediation 2019, to promote mediation as an effective method of settling inter-state disputes, was adopted in Singapore on 7 August 2019, hence the name the Singapore Convention on Mediation. This Convention was co-organised the UN Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) and the Ministry of Law, Singapore. Forty-six countries signed the Convention on the first day which should be considered an encouraging sign of the determination to resort to mediation for settlement of their disputes – which may arise under commercial contracts.
