Powers of the court: interim measures
In VTB Commodities Trading DAC v JSC Antipinsky Refinery and Another  EWHC 72 (Comm);  1 Lloyd’s Rep 540 Phillips LJ considered a number of points on the operation of section 44 of the Arbitration Act 1996, under which the Court is granted limited powers to grant interim relief in support of arbitral proceedings. The most important element of the judgment is the ruling that if a matter is urgent when an order is made without notice, but has ceased to be urgent when a full hearing is held, the court has no power to continue the order.
