NEARLY 2M HOMES IN US FACE ELEVATED WILDFIRE RISK: REPORT
More than 1.975m US homes with a rebuilding value of more than $638bn face elevated risk from wildfires, according to the annual wildfire report by US property data and analytics firm CoreLogic. The report notes that the “disproportionate amount of wildfire activity” is in the western US, where California accounts for 76% of the threatened homes on the CoreLogic tally and 84% of the rebuilding cost. CoreLogic issued the report amid one of the worst wildfire seasons in California history. According to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Prevention, this season has seen some 3.75m acres charred and 7,874 homes and other structures destroyed. Seven California cities are on CoreLogic’s list of the 10 most wildfire-exposed US metropolitan areas. Topping the list is Los Angeles, with 154,462 single-family homes with reconstruction cost value of $90.31bn facing elevated wildfire risk.
