Covid-19 - viral opportunities for criminals

Covid-19 has shifted both consumer behaviour and the revenue streams for criminals, encouraging abandonment of some laundering techniques in favour of others, writes Paul Cochrane. Malefactors have intensified their cyber focus, attacking unwary computer users at home, exploiting the increase in e-commerce and e-banking generated by the pandemic. Compounding the threat, anti-money laundering (AML) efforts by the regulated sector and law enforcement continue to face both disruption and dislocation from the immediate and indirect effects of coronavirus.
