Warning on choosing shorter routes in polar areas highlights the fire risk
Following the news of the fire on MPV Everest, Voirrey Blount, admiralty manager at global law firm Reed Smith, said: “Any
fire on board a vessel is a major incident, regardless of the location of the vessel. However, most vessels are not navigating
in the Antarctic regions of our oceans and are not many days from rescue, unlike the MPV Everest who found herself requiring
assistance in one of the most isolated areas of navigable water on Earth.
