Big ships: big risks

Lars Lange, of the International Union of Marine Insurance, discusses the challenges facing the shipping sector when it comes to risk management

The fortunes of container shipping can best be described as variable. From a financial perspective, container freight indices are climbing fairly steeply and steadily meaning earnings are positive. Newbuild orders are not flooding into the yards and this is stabilising idle capacity.
