Supreme Court ruling on care homes
Royal Mencap Society v Tomlinson-Blake; Shannon v Rampersad and Another (t/a Clifton House Residential Home) [2021] UKSC 8
As there have been a large number of deaths in care homes from Covid-19 during the pandemic, they have been under the media spotlight for some time. Care workers are generally regarded as being insufficiently rewarded for their difficult work which has often been dangerous in some instances, as care workers looking after vulnerable patients have been exposed to the virus at times when there was a shortage of PPE in the sector. The Supreme Court recently heard an appeal by two care workers who had “sleep-in” arrangements overnight at their places of work.
