Designs: what now after Brexit?

Like manyareas of UK law thoroughly intertwined with the EU, design protection hasreceived a Brexit shake up, say Lewis Silkin’s AntonyCraggs, Oliver Fairhurst and Victoria Owrid

Pre-Brexit, designers had to grapple with fourdifferent rights in developing a strategy to best protect their designs(registered Community designs, unregistered Community designs, registered UKrights and UK unregistered design rights). Three new rights have now enteredthe arena (re-registered designs, continuing unregistered designs andsupplementary unregistered designs), and the ‘Community’ (EU) rights no longerapply in the UK. So what are thesenew rights and what are their implications?
