Environmental impairment liability (EIL) and similar policies have evolved significantly in the past 20 years, in response
to a combination of an increased awareness of environmental risks, stricter regulatory and legal regimes and the emergence
of environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) principles as a corporate metric. What was once seen as a niche product
that was only required in certain high-risk sectors is now increasingly viewed as an important part of the risk-transfer strategy
for many businesses.
