State rights and wreck

4.1 Introduction

Chapter 5 addresses States’ jurisdictional capacity to regulate wreck within the various maritime zones provided for in UNCLOS. This chapter addresses the exercise of those rights by the UK (and other States by way of comparison) as well as State rights arising from national law. This begins with a consideration of the UK’s regulatory capacity to respond to wrecks that pose a hazard.
