Regulation of the conduct of insurance companies

10.1 Introduction

The key requirement of regulation of the conduct of insurers is that insurers must, in their conduct of the insurance business, treat customers fairly throughout the insurance life cycle, from the time before a contract is entered into and through to the point at which all obligations under a contract have been satisfied.1 The fair treatment of customers encompasses concepts such as ethical behaviour, acting in good faith, and the prohibition of misconduct and abusive practices.
