International Regulations for Ship Operators, their Verification and Enforcement

1. INTRODUCTION1

Chapter 7 reviews some of the statutory regulations with which ship operators are required to comply: in particular we look at those which have more recently been introduced. The responsibility for the enforcement of these regulations lies with the flag State administrations but we also examine the role of the port State and of the classification societies. The work of the European safety agency EMSA is also examined.
