27.1 The Lloyd’s Agency system was first established in 1811.1 There are currently about 300 Lloyd’s Agents and about the same number of sub-agents around the world providing shipping information and casualty intelligence, marine survey and, in most cases, claims adjusting services.2 They are trained and periodically financially audited and examined for competence by the Agency Department. There is a service level agreement between Lloyd’s and Lloyd’s Agents for survey work.3
