Beleaguered government hints at a greater role for the private sector

ITALIANS ushered in a new government a year ago, giving a centre-right coalition government a solid majority in both houses of parliament in elections held last May. Nonetheless, life has not always been easy for the government led by Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi, who through the Fininvest holding company also controls the three TV channels of Mediaset.
