Hague Rules - Package limitation - Cargo shipped in containers
The plaintiffs were the shippers and consignee of a cargo of sugar carried in the defendants’ vessel
Bella Coola
. The sugar was shipped in jute poly bags and stuffed into two containers by Atlantic at their warehouse in Montreal. The
containers were sealed and taken by truck to the wharf and placed on board the
Bella Coola
. The charterers provided short form bills of lading which were declared to have effect subject to the provisions of the Canadian
Water Carriage of Goods Act 1936 and the Schedule (
i.e.
the Hague Rules).
