International Longshoremen’s Association AFL-CIO v. Allied International Inc. - U.S. Court of Appeals (1st Circuit) - 20 April 1982
Longshoremen union’s boycott of cargoes from Soviet Union declared illegal under U.S. Act
The respondents were importers of Russian wood from the Soviet Union to United States ports. The stevedores employed to unload
the ships in America belonged to the International Longshoremen’s Association (the union). As a protest against the Russian
invasion of Afghanistan, the union refused to unload cargoes arriving from or destined for the Soviet Union. As a result,
the importers’ shipments and business was disrupted completely.
