Vessel arrested to obtain security in foreign arbitration proceedings - Whether vessel should be unconditionally released

The vessel Didymi was time-chartered to the plaintiffs by the defendant shipowners. The charterparty contained a London arbitration clause. Various disputes arose under the charterparty and the charterers commenced arbitration proceedings in London. The first set of proceedings were begun in December 1981. A further arbitration, dealing with another dispute, was begun in April 1982 and a third claim was submitted to arbitration on 16 March 1984. None of the events underlying the relevant claims took place in Canadian ports.
