6.1 There are many textbooks, both in the specialist field of insurance law and in the more general field of contract law, which deal with the numerous rules of construction applicable to contracts generally and insurance contracts in particular. The purpose of this chapter is not to duplicate the coverage of those works or to provide a comprehensive treatise on the construction of insurance contracts but to focus on those aspects which are of frequent practical application.
