The legislative framework for international arbitration in Sweden is the Arbitration Act of 1999. Although the Act is based upon the UNCITRAL Model Law there are some important distinctions. The Swedish Act applies to both international and domestic arbitrations, but only where the seat is in Sweden. It is also noteworthy that there is no requirement that the arbitration agreement be in writing.
