The legislative framework for international commercial arbitration in Switzerland is set out in Chapter 12 of the Federal Private International Law Act, which came into force on 18 December 1987. It applies where the seat of arbitration is in Switzerland and at least one of the parties was neither domiciled nor resident in Switzerland when the agreement to arbitrate was entered into.
