Writ served abroad in EC - Whether period for validity of writ governed by law of country of service or by English law

The plaintiff cargo interests issued a writ against the defendant shipowners claiming damages for alleged breach of contract or duty in connection with the carriage of cargo on the defendants’ vessel Reefer Creole in February and March 1992. The writ was issued on 5 March 1993. As it was not possible to serve the writ before Sunday, 4 July 1993, it was served on the defendants in Greece on the next day.
