CHINA APPOINTS REVIEW TEAM TO OFFER ADVICE ON Y2K CLAIMS
China has established a specialist team that is to provide advice and make judgments on any insurance claims that may result from Y2K-related computer problems. The team is to be headed by Wu Xiaoping, vice-chairman of the China Insurance Regulatory Commission (CIRC), and will also include insurance company officials and experts recommended by China’s ministry of information industry. In a statement published in the official Shanghai Securities News
, the CIRC said that the specialist team would be available to offer advice when disputes on Y2K-related claims ended in court. The regulator said that the team had been established as a result of requests from insurance companies.
