Why the Web’s Bad News for Rumpole…
Sean Hargrave in the Daily Mail of 16 November reported that as the Internet goes from strength to strength more people are
turning their backs on flesh-and-blood lawyers and sorting their legal affairs online. He says that whilst some lawyers will
be worried about the advent of websites offering to do their job for a fraction of the price, Hilary Siddle, chair of the
Law Society’s Family Law Committee, welcomed the new services, saying “At the end of the day you don’t go to a lawyer for
help for filling the sorts of forms you can now get online. You go to a lawyer for expert advice. If you feel you can proceed
without that advice, that’s fine’. The Daily Mail recommends two websites in particular,
www.desktoplawyer.net
which offers a wide variety of legal forms and advice covering such areas as employment, wills, rent and divorce at a fraction
of the cost of their high street equivalents and
www.lawrights.co.uk
which it describes as a fantastic site packed with question-and-answer sections on just about any legal issue you can think
of.
