Animated Reconstruction

Aims Solutions, a high-tech company affiliated to Nottingham University is able to create animated sequences showing reconstruction of accidents similar to those regularly used in the US courts. The animation technology is similar to that shown in the films ‘Jurassic Park’ and ‘The Matrix’. It can display a crash sequence from multiple points of view which allows witnesses to compare their accounts with what is shown in the sequence. A representative of the West Midlands Police Crash Investigation Unit, who had collaborated in the preparation of an animated reconstruction for use at an inquest, said ‘Forensic experts give specialised advice requiring a degree of understanding in maths and physics that lay people don’t have. It’s much easier and more direct for them to put it into pictures’.
