Five-Day Mouth Swab Paternity Test

Cellmark Diagnostics now offer routine DNA testing by mouth swab samples in five working days. The test involves rubbing a foam swab around the inside of the mouths of the mother, the alleged father and the child. They are analysed using STR (short tandem repeat) DNA profiling which was originally developed for forensic testing. At least ten STR tests are used to simultaneously examine different parts of the DNA providing rapid and accurate maternity analysis. Paternity is proved with a certainty in excess of 99.99% whilst non-paternity is proved with 100% certainty. Small blood samples may be required if a close relative of the alleged father is suspected of paternity and for cases where more than complex relationship issues are being investigated.
