ET Penalties Increased

In an attempt to discourage time-wasting claims in employment tribunals it is proposed that there should be a 20-fold increase in the costs that can be awarded for unreasonable or vexatious behaviour from £500 to £10,000 and that such behaviour shall included that of the claimant’s adviser. There is also to be a provision for the deposit to be increased from £150 to £500 in appropriate cases. The massive increase in cases claiming compensation for unfair dismissal is attributed to the increase in the maximum limit from £12,000 to £50,000.
