More women judges
The Lord Chancellor’s fourth Judicial Appointments Annual Report shows that in the period 1 April 2001 to 31 March 2002, the
appointment of women rose from 28.4% in the previous year to 34.4% in 2001/2002, and that 23.5% of the women who applied were
successful compared to 20.8% of male applicants. The appointment of ethnic minority judges rose from 6.9% to 7.8%, with 20.5%
being successful compared to 21.4% of those known to be of white origin.
