This year, there were 394 applications for Silk: 39 applications were from women (9.9%), 23 from ethnic minority lawyers (5.8%) and 10 from solicitors (2.5%). Of the 121 appointed (30.7% of all applicants), nine are women (23.1% of female applicants) and seven are from an ethnic minority (30.4% of ethnic minority applicants) and one is a solicitor (10.0% of all solicitor applicants). Last year, the comparable figures were that 429 applied. Of the 113 appointed (26.3% of all applicants), 12 were women (27.2% of all female applicants), seven were from an ethnic minority (36.8% of ethnic minority applicants) and two solicitors were appointed (25.0% of all solicitor applicants).
