CAFCASS – resignation welcomed
One of the reforms of CAFCASS called for by the House of Commons Committee of the Lord Chancellor’s Department was the replacement
of its inexperienced board by more experienced members (22/
LL p91). They have started at the top with the resignation of its chairman, Anthony Hewson. In welcoming the resignation, Alan
Beith MP, chairman of the Constitutional Affairs Committee, said: ‘[Mr Hewson] has opened the way to implementing one of the
committee’s main recommendations by resigning. We said there should be a fundamental review of the membership of the board
and that now needs to be carried out by the Minister for Children, Margaret Hodge.’
