Covert surveillance

Martin v United Kingdom ECHR TLR 26 February

The local authority placed the claimant’s home under covert surveillance, using a hidden video camera, after complaints by her neighbours about her behaviour and that of her children. Her complaint to the European Court of Human Rights alleging breaches of articles 8 (respect for family life) and 14 (prohibition of discrimination) of the European Convention on Human Rights was settled by a payment by the UK Government of £4,000 and costs.
