Compensation culture crackdown

According to The Times of 22 March, legal aid could be discontinued for claims against schools, the police, and the medical profession in a crackdown on the compensation culture that is costing public services millions of pounds a year. The paper said that ministers want to reduce the soaring cost of claims against public authorities so that the money can go to front-line services instead. The Legal Services Commission is to publish a paper which will put forward proposals for cutting legal aid in certain court actions. People will be encouraged to resolve their disputes through mediation and arbitration.
