Litigation Letter

Attendance by video-link

Babbings v Kirklees Metropolitan Council CA TLR 4 November

A short half-hour application had involved counsel travelling to the Court of Appeal from Manchester. This was a good example of how the new video-link facility at the Court of Appeal can be helpful. Counsel should consider in such circumstances whether it would be more appropriate to make use of the facility than to appear in person, so that a hearing could take place over the link. The Civil Appeal Office would be happy to assist in explaining how the system would work. Although on this occasion costs would be dealt with in the usual way, in future it might be considered appropriate to have regard to the relative cost of a video-link hearing and an attendance at court.
