NHS injury costs recovery

The Government has published draft regulations for the NHS Injury Costs Recovery Scheme, extending it to cover recovery of costs from insurance companies for treating patients in all cases where personal injury compensation is paid, in addition to the costs of treating people injured in road traffic accidents where they have successfully claimed compensation for their injuries, as at present. Under the present scheme, the NHS is recovering around £105m a year, and it is expected that when the new scheme is fully operational the NHS will recover an additional £150m a year.
