Chancery – Pass It On

Two cases in which the Court of Appeal criticised the allocation of Chancery work to a district judge without sufficient experience and expertise, together with an article by Daniel Lightman in the New Law Journal of 4 February, have focused attention on Chancery work in the county court. Eight county courts, known as ‘Chancery county courts’ have circuit judges with Chancery experience sit as High Court judges of the Chancery Division. They are attached to the District Registries of the High Court at Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle upon Tyne and Preston.
