Litigation Letter
Miller v Miller goes to the House of Lords
Alan Miller, a multi-millionaire businessman, has been given permission to appeal to the House of Lords from the decision
of the Court of Appeal (24/
LL p92) upholding the award of £5m to his wife Melissa by Singer J. The parties had been married for only two years and nine
months, but they had been in the relationship for some four years before that. The husband accepted that it was his adulterous
affair which caused the breakdown of the marriage. The case involves the two fundamental issues of the relevance of the length
of the marriage to the amount of a financial award and whether the conduct of the parties has been resurrected as a relevant
factor in ancillary relief.
