Miller v Miller goes to the House of Lords

Alan Miller, a multi-millionaire businessman, has been given permission to appeal to the House of Lords from the decision of the Court of Appeal (24/ LL p92) upholding the award of £5m to his wife Melissa by Singer J. The parties had been married for only two years and nine months, but they had been in the relationship for some four years before that. The husband accepted that it was his adulterous affair which caused the breakdown of the marriage. The case involves the two fundamental issues of the relevance of the length of the marriage to the amount of a financial award and whether the conduct of the parties has been resurrected as a relevant factor in ancillary relief.
