Hearsay in contempt proceedings
Daltel Europe Ltd (in liquidation) and others v Makki and others CA TLR 8 March; SJ 10 March
The defendant had been in breach of freezing and search orders and had verified defences in the action without an honest belief
in the truth of the contents. He was committed to prison for 12 months for various contempts. He appealed on the grounds that
committal proceedings in civil proceedings were criminal and therefore the judge should not have allowed the admission of
hearsay evidence.
