Hearsay in contempt proceedings

Daltel Europe Ltd (in liquidation) and others v Makki and others CA TLR 8 March; SJ 10 March

The defendant had been in breach of freezing and search orders and had verified defences in the action without an honest belief in the truth of the contents. He was committed to prison for 12 months for various contempts. He appealed on the grounds that committal proceedings in civil proceedings were criminal and therefore the judge should not have allowed the admission of hearsay evidence.
