Litigation Letter
Gee Street
Clerkenwell and Shoreditch County Courts have amalgamated and moved to new premises in Gee Street, near the Barbican in Central
London. The court is designated as a divorce county court in order to remove some of the pressure on the Principal Registry
and to provide a local family court for those living in Islington, Camden and Hackney. The court has six full-time circuit
judges (four having been promoted from district judge), five district judges, and five visiting judges ‘ticketed’ to hear
public law cases. The court is equipped for video hearings. There are five additional courtrooms, which are to be used to
try care cases and other family matters that are proceeding in the Principal Registry and other family courts in the South
East region, although the new court is not itself a care centre. Care cases will be listed only for final hearing at Gee Street,
the case management remaining with the home court. For further information contact the Gee Street Courthouse, 29–41 Gee Street,
London ECIV 3RE, tel 020 7250 7200, fax 020 7250 7250.
