Litigation Letter

ITAC revived

The Government has revived the Liaison Group Information Technology and the Courts (ITAC). Its terms of reference are: ‘A high level and strategic forum for their majesty’s court service and representatives of the legal profession to consider and discuss HNCS IT development in the context of business change.’ Its chairman is Lord Justice Stanley Burnton as the judge in charge of modernisation and IT, and its members include nominees of the Bar Council and the Law Society, representatives of the London Solicitors Litigation Association and the Commercial Litigation Association (CLAN), a nominee of the institute of Legal Executives and a litigation technologist. Speaking at the CLAN first annual conference, its chairman, Tony Guise, said that the objective was to establish the vital link between the increasing revenue generated by the civil justice system by way of increased court fees and the level of investment in IT. The group will not focus solely on IT, but on business change generally. Its first working meeting was held on 10 April.
