PRODUCT SAFETY REGULATION

6.1 The rules and function of product safety law are separate and distinct from product liability law. Product liability law covers the civil law of payment of compensation by a manufacturer or supplier to a person who is injured by the former’s negligence or defective product. Product safety law is the name now given to a growing body of rules which regulate the placing of unsafe products on the market and their removal from the market, backed by criminal sanctions.
