Divorce boom

According to The Lawyer of 22 September, the credit crunch has resulted in a significant increase in the number of women seeking advice on divorce proceedings. Men also are seeking advice on how to prevent their ex-wives from accessing their dwindling wealth. A survey by Mishcon de Reya revealed that more than a fifth of those consulted believed divorce proceedings would be launched ahead of a recession as spouses attempt to secure cash. The article quoted Sandra Davis of Mishcon as saying: ‘Those couples who papered over the cracks with open cheque books are now seeing those cracks emerging as full fault lines.’
