AGRICULTURAL GROUP INSURANCE SCHEME LAUNCHED IN INDIA

A group insurance scheme for Indian agricultural workers has been launched that will eventually cover the social security needs of over 300m agricultural labourers Called Krishi Shramik Samajik Suraksha Yojana-2001, it has been designed by the Life Insurance Corporation of India in association with the local labour and finance ministries. Each worker will contributes Rp1 a day, to which the Indian government will add a further Rp2. For pension eligibility, the minimum period of contribution will be 10 years.
