EU ministers back criminal records exchange system

Creation of a European Criminal Records Information System will now go ahead, with European Union (EU) legislation sanctioning and detailing its operation approved by the EU Council of Ministers. The confirmation came with an EU decision on developing a decentralised information technology system for exchanging between member state records of serious crimes, including a range of frauds. The law sets out a standardised format for the electronic exchange of this data.
