Insurance - Subrogation - Damage caused to detention centre by rioting detainees - Whether operators of detention centre and their insurers entitled to recover compensation from the local police authority - Riot (Damages) Act 1886
The Riot (Damages) Act 1886 applies to damage caused by the inmates of a contracted-out detention centre operated by private companies to the detention centre itself. Accordingly, the police were required to provide compensation to the operators of the detention centre following rioting and fire which caused damage to the centre.
